Project Brief – Mercedes-Benz Egypt
Mercedes-Benz has maintained a significant footprint in Egypt’s automotive industry through local assembly operations. In 1996, the Egyptian German Automotive Company (EGA) was established as a joint venture between prominent Egyptian entrepreneurs and Daimler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG). Strategically located in the 6th of October City near Cairo, EGA assembled several Mercedes-Benz passenger car models.
Due to political and economic challenges, local assembly was suspended in 2015. However, in 2019, Mercedes-Benz announced its intention to resume assembly operations in Egypt. Following a thorough evaluation, the company reaffirmed its partnership with the Egyptian German Automotive Company as the exclusive local assembly partner.
By late 2024, Mercedes-Benz declared a 30% planned increase in local production for the coming year—an indicator of its long-term commitment to the Egyptian market.
